Today was my baby's first birthday. I can't believe an entire year has gone by. It seems like just yesterday I was holding his tiny hand for the first time, completely amazed at my heart's capacity to love every one of my children so much - regardless of how many I have. I was honestly worried when I was pregnant with him. I wondered, "I already have the 3 most amazing kids. How will I be able to love this one as much?" Well all it took was our first meeting. Woozy with anesthesia from the c-section, Shannon held him close to my face and I looked into those puffy blue eyes and fell in love - for the 5th time!! And hours later when I was able to hold little Sam for the first time, the bond was secured. Wow - and here we are a year later.
We had another soccer filled Saturday, followed by a picnic. This evening was just the family, though. We had a nice dinner and then it was time for cake. I made cupcakes and Sydney and Ben helped with the icing and decorations. When we turned the lights out to sing "Happy Birthday", Sam started to cry. So we finished with the lights on. He stared at his cupcake for a minute, and then went to town! He even licked his fingers! The kids got a kick out of watching their baby brother pig out. After a quick bath we went on a walk and delivered some cupcakes to the neighbors. Sam was exhausted and fell asleep in his crib without any p
roblem. Happy Birthday, my sweet baby boy!!
I taught Sam this response to, "How old are you Sam?"
Such a smart little guy!
